Oaxaca Insider

We are proud and pleased to bring you this new and FRESH website whose main objective is to promote the beautiful and unique city of OAXACA, MEXICO (say WAH-HA-KA). Our other goal is to bring to you the amazing world of Oaxacan Art, both fine and folk art. You will often hear the word "magical" when referring to Oaxaca, well, we'd like to show you why. Only a couple of parts of the INSIDER'S GUIDE TO OAXACA are still under construction, we invite you back again and again to check what's new in Oaxaca and with the INSIDER. The Insider is one of the only sites where you can be fascinated by Oaxaca City and also the beautiful Oaxaca Coast, Puerto Escondido and Huatulco.

Visit THE INSIDER often; information and Insider's tips will change daily. There is a blog from the INSIDER that you won't want to miss. Instead of the same, stale information you can get in all guidebooks and websites on Oaxaca, we will tempt you with the colors and moods that only Oaxaca can invoke, and in a thought-provoking and funky way. We will be as honest as possible when bringing you interviews with artists and when giving tips on where to stay and where to eat, where to shop, as well as tour guides, travel agencies, real estate, a special DAY OF THE DEAD section and so much more. We wanna bring it to you straight and not sugar-coat it, as the INSIDER sees it, and with a touch of humor.

Oaxaca Mexico travel art culture

Everyone that you see represented here on THE INSIDER'S GUIDE TO OAXACA is anxious to get their message across to you: PLEASE COME AND VISIT US HERE IN OAXACA! We'll try to tempt you here by describing the things for which Oaxaca is famous...the food, the culture, the painters, the artisans, the ruins, the riot of colors, the great weather, the fabulous accommodations we offer and so much more!

Although not everyone may be able to visit the magic of Oaxaca, many of our artists would be happy to send items right to your door. Some have provided 100% secure payment pages with their information. You can trust that these pages are certified every year and are 100% secure so you can feel safe when entering your payment information. Please browse around and check out the love and passion that was put into this site and maybe one day we'll be showing you around town! It's hard to describe in words and photos the feelings that are evoked when you visit Oaxaca's treasures, but we're gonna give it a damn good try.

Whether your thinking of coming to Oaxaca to learn Spanish, learn about the rich culture, to buy art at fabulous prices, on business, to take cooking classes or just come to eat the fabu food, visit the ruins and craft villages, study Colonial architecture, or rent an apartment and let Oaxaca inspire you to paint, we have something for you on this site and here in Oaxaca. ¡VIVA OAXACA!

See this month's interview and slideshow of works of a Oaxacan fine artist at Spotlight on Oaxacan Fine Art: New artist featured every month or so...come back often.

WHAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN OAXACA....
APRIL & MAY, 2013

This space is for OAXACAN ART, whether it be by native Oaxacans or others living and working here, we bring you the latest in what is happening in Oaxaca's art world, and every few weeks there is new art featured here. Keep coming back to see what's up!

And don't forget to check OAXACAN ART in our menu items above and below, we have interviews and slideshows with artists and artisans every month or so.

MOVIMIENTO LOS MONSTRUOS - THE MONSTER MOVEMENT is currently in its MONSTER ATTACK TOUR with 3 art expositions in April, 2013.

The first of the 3 Monster Attack Tour shows was held at La Esquina de Alcalá Restaurant/Bar/Gallery located at the corner of 5 de mayo & Independencia Streets, upstairs. With a killer view of the Macedonia Alcalá theater from it's many balconies, La Esquina de Alcalá is a fun bar & open and airy enough to accomodate art shows very well. Also, check out their super inexpensive comida corrida every weekday.

The next 2 shows will be held on April 26 at GALERÍA BARCELONA (Armenta y Lopez #422, Centro) & on April 27 at 8:pm at Mezcalería Cuish (Diaz Ordaz #712, Centro). Try to make one of these shows!

The painting to the left is by EMSAR and is entitled "AMBULANTE". And on the right we have a picture of the entire crew of MONSTERS, Daniel Sanchez, Oscar Mejilla, Mike Kakkoii, Mike Reptile, Pablo Esteban, Eluzai Juarez, Romel Sanchez and Carlos Pastrana, sitting under a painting by Mike Reptile.

Monster's friend, Edilberto, trying to eat Pablo Esteban's painting "Pablo in a Car". Not to worry, most of Pablo Esteban's paintings are created using paint that you use to paint a house or other objects. The paintings invite you to touch them and he encourages it, you can't hurt them.

A good time was had by all, but not as good of a time as MIKE REPTILE had dancing. He is obviously the class clown of the MONSTER MOVEMENT, his art also usually includes a touch of humor.

Pablo Esteban was interviewed in the venue (with one of his paintings in view) by Pedro Cadena for a program on CorTV called ´La Musa Errante´. The Insider has said it before, but it's worth repeating.... keep your eye on Pablo Esteban, he's going places and you heard it here first.

crime in mexico

Hey, beginning this year, 2013, there is a new President in Mexico and things have settled down significantly EVERYWHERE in Mexico.....Oaxaca was always safe, but now there is really no reason to not visit Mexico this year and if you still have any doubt, please read on....Please don't just believe the media's demonization of Mexico; comparing crime in both countries, THE U.S. HAS 7 TIMES MORE CRIME THAN MEXICO!!! TRUE! Read the source info here: Crime statistics comparisons but then make sure and come back here to read the rest!!!

For some reason, and i agree that there is cause for alarm with the emptynarcotrafficers in the NORTH of Mexico, especially border towns, the media has decided to wage all out warfare on Mexico. But you have to be logical and reasonable and check the facts. To say that you don't want to visit Oaxaca because you are afraid of being the victim of violent crime is like saying that you're afraid to visit San Diego because New Orleans has the country's highest violent crime rate. That's just crazy.

Oaxaca is, and always has been, one of the most tranquil cities in all of Mexico. Would you believe it if you read the statistics yourself? You are more likely to be involved in a violent crime in New Orleans, Washington DC, Houston, Chicago, Detroit, L.A., New York, Memphis, Atlanta, Cleveland, Phoenix, Baltimore, Pine Bluff Arkansas and many more cities than in OAXACA? It's true, I'm not makin' this stuff up! check your city on this link, these stats are from the FBI: Violent deaths in Mexico: Everything is not as it seems.

empty

This is also another great article on how the media makes it look like there is more crime in Mexico than in the U.S., but it just isn't true! Please read this ... USA Today article on Mexico drug violence.

Here at the INSIDER we just want you to make an informed decision, and if you decide to visit us here in Oaxaca, we welcome you with open arms. Remember, due to some bad publicity about narcotrafficers in other states far from here, everyone in Oaxaca is suffering, it is a very good time to visit Oaxaca to take advantage of discounts and price roll backs, especially on goods like handicrafts, folk art and fine art. There are so many good reasons to visit Oaxaca, we hope you will spend a few minutes on our site checking out what Oaxaca has to offer and we hope to see you soon!
